Terrace Heights Elementary - Secure and Teach Lifted at 1:44 PM

Update (Tuesday, May 23th @ 1:44 p.m.): Terrace Heights Elementary Secure & Teach has been lifted.

Terrace Heights Elementary went into a Secure and Teach at 1:05 p.m. at the request of the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office due to police activity nearby. The Secure and Teach was lifted at 1:44 p.m.

What is a Secure and Teach?
There are two types of Secure and Teach. One is for external factors like nearby police activity or a strange person walking in the vicinity of the school. The other is for internal activity, like student or staff injury, internal behavior, or other disturbance.
What does this mean for the school?
All external entrances and classroom doors are closed and locked. Teachers continue to teach and move about in the classroom as needed. If students are outside (like at recess), they will be brought indoors.

During Secure and Teach situations due to potential external threats, parents are not allowed to enter or exit the school. Families should avoid going to the school so that they do not interfere with potential law enforcement/emergency vehicles and presence. Families should avoid calling the school so that phone lines are not tied up, but rather open for communication with first responders.
